A health system imbedded in a large retirement community that does not accept Medicare and Medigap supplemental insurance...... not a good thing.
The Villages Regional Hospital was characterized in the brochure as "World Class". I had severely cut my ear. My wife drove me to the ER. I waited, still bleeding, for 35 minutes - my wife had to constantly go into the washroom to get paper towels to absorb the blood. When I was finally given an ER room, the admitting nurse said she, "did not know if the top of my ear could be saved." She left. A doctor came in said, he would probably have to cut off the top of my ear. and left. Finally a NP came said, "Oh, no problem, I can sow that up." Which he did. However, my wife, who is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, was appalled at the sanitary practices - dirty floors, blood stained gurneys, gloveless sowing by the NP.
Dr. Kaplan and the phlebotomists and staff are absolutely terrific!!! A truly well run medical practice.
I also have chronic anemia. The treatment is quarterly subcutaneous pellet inserts. Again, none of the specialists in the System would do this kind of procedure.
I moved to the Villages because of the world class integration of "The Villages Health System". First, it took 6 months to be assigned a PCP.; who was located next to the hospital; while i lived near Brownwood.
Best health care facility in Lake County. I've kissed a lot of frogs, but I truly found my prince of doctors.
Love this facility. Have never been taken care of by any Dr or staff in this manner. Never in and out like cattle. Need new Dr. ? You will be very pleased.
I have a complex set of neurological issues. During that time I had to return periodically to my previous neurologist in Atlanta to have my conditions monitored. Once I was assigned a PCP, she scheduled me with a Villages Neurologist - he turned me down as a patient because my case was too complex. She then sent me to a second Villages Neurologist - same turn down. A third, outside The Villages, finally took me.
I had wonderful service when I was at The Villages Health at Pinellas Plaza. The staff were courteous and professional, and I was helped in a timely manner. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a new Dr.
